Groups

TWIST works with six community theatre groups in different regions of KZN each year.  These groups participate in our core programme, and are linked with key role-players in the KZN theatre industry, including theatre organisations, drama departments of theatre schools, theatre festivals and experienced theatre practitioners from South Africa and The Netherlands (including teachers, script-writers, and local theatre directors).

Emuhle All Artists
This large group is based in Port Shepstone on the KZN South Coast.  The group was established in 2000 has been working over a number of years in the area around the Ugu municipality. They have a number of recently developed plays, including Anti-Christ, which explores themes of life, death and religion; The Milk Factory, which explores issues of cattle and land ownership; and Land of Milk And …  which looks at issues of tradition versus modernity, and the gap between men and women.
Emuhle has a mailing list of 600 people and focuses on combating any form of abuse and the HIV and AIDS pandemic.

Siyakha Performing Artists
This large group is based in Pietermaritzburg, and was established in 2005. They ahve won a number of local awards for their work, and performed for some of the local and national government departments.   Their latest works include Angizenzanga, which looks at child abuse and the chaos this creates in the community;  Life in Pictures, which explores identity and social problems, and Lost Love, which is a prison-based drama centred around crimes committed by young women.
